Mickey Arthur Backs Babar Azam Amid T20I Exclusion

📍 Former Head Coach Labels Babar as “Absolute Class”

Former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has expressed unwavering support for Babar Azam, referring to him as “absolute class” and emphasizing that he would always include Babar in his playing XI. This endorsement comes in light of Babar’s continued absence from Pakistan’s T20I squad.

Babar, alongside wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, was omitted from the five-match T20I series in New Zealand earlier this year—a decision the selection committee justified as an opportunity to test emerging talent. Both players remain excluded from the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, commencing May 28 in Lahore.

In a recent interview, Arthur stated, “I would always have Babar Azam in the team. I think he’s a wonderful player. I’m not sure what’s happened over the past couple of years, but the Babar I know is absolute class.”

🧤 Praise for Mohammad Rizwan’s Versatility

Arthur also commended Mohammad Rizwan for his adaptability and skills, particularly as a wicketkeeper. He noted, “If Rizwan is your best wicketkeeper, then he has a role to play. He can adapt his game to fit wherever the team needs him. It’s about making the most of his abilities.”
