PSL 10: Babar Azam and Maaz Sadaqat Lead Zalmi to Victory Over United

Peshawar Zalmi secured a crucial six-wicket win against Islamabad United in the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Friday. Captain Babar Azam and debutant Maaz Sadaqat delivered standout performances in the successful chase of a modest target.

Zalmi’s Rocky Start in the Run Chase

Chasing 144, Zalmi’s innings began with a brief burst and early setbacks. Mitchell Owen smashed a six on the very first ball from Kyle Mayers but was dismissed on the next. Soon after, opener Saim Ayub fell for just 1, leaving Zalmi at 12-2.

Babar and Haris Try to Rebuild

Captain Babar Azam partnered with Mohammad Haris in an attempt to stabilize the innings. The duo added 26 runs before Haris was caught off Riley Meredith for 13, bringing Zalmi to a shaky 38-3.

Maaz Sadaqat’s Dream Debut

Maaz Sadaqat, making his PSL debut, rose to the occasion with a mature and composed knock. He and Babar stitched together a match-winning 102-run partnership, turning the game in Zalmi’s favor. Maaz scored an impressive 55 off 33 balls, reaching his maiden PSL fifty.

Babar Azam Anchors the Chase

Babar Azam showcased his experience and leadership with an unbeaten 53 off 49 balls, marking his 35th PSL fifty. He remained calm under pressure and guided the chase till the end. Though Maaz fell just before the finish line, Max Bryant ensured the win with a boundary in the 17th over.

Islamabad United’s Inning Falters After Good Start

Earlier, Islamabad United opted to bat first after winning the toss. The opening duo of Sahibzada Farhan (36) and Kyle Mayers (18) gave them a promising start with a 58-run partnership. However, once Farhan was dismissed by Ahmed Daniyal, a collapse followed.

Zalmi’s Tight Bowling Restricts United to 143-9

The middle order crumbled under pressure, with Luke Wood removing Azam Khan cheaply and Babar Azam contributing in the field with a direct-hit run-out of Imad Wasim. Only Ben Dwarshuis showed some late resistance, scoring an unbeaten 33 off 17 balls. But disciplined bowling and excellent fielding kept United to just 143-9 in their 20 overs.

Zalmi Climb the Table, United Struggle

With this victory, Peshawar Zalmi earned their third win of the season and continue to move up the PSL points table. On the other hand, Islamabad United faced their second loss and will need to regroup for the upcoming fixtures.
