Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has shared his thoughts on Azam Siddique’s recent social media comments, advising that family members should avoid making public statements about a player’s career.
Azam Siddique, father of Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam, took to Instagram to express his frustration following Babar’s omission from Pakistan’s T20I squad for the New Zealand tour after a disappointing Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
Azam Siddique’s Response to Criticism
Reacting to the backlash against Babar, Siddique highlighted that his son was named in the ICC T20 Team of the Year but was still dropped from the squad.
“Despite being part of the ICC’s T20 Team of the Year, he was dropped. It’s fine; he will perform in the National T20 and PSL. Insha Allah, he will make a comeback,” he wrote.
He also took a jab at former cricketers, urging them to be more mindful of their words.
“They are very big former players, but they should choose their words wisely. If someone responds, they may not tolerate it. You are the past, and that door will never open,” he added.
Kamran Akmal’s Advice to Babar’s Father
Commenting on the situation, Kamran Akmal advised that players’ families should refrain from making public statements, as it often adds unnecessary controversy.
“I went through a tough time in my career. I understood everyone but told my father and brothers that it wasn’t their job to respond or speak on my behalf. Every player’s family should follow this policy,” said Akmal.
He further emphasized that making public comments against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) or cricketing authorities is inappropriate.
“I don’t think it is appropriate to speak against the institution,” he added.
While Babar Azam remains under scrutiny for his recent performances, discussions around family involvement in cricket matters continue to spark debate. Many believe that players should handle criticism independently, while others argue that support from family members is natural.
With Pakistan’s T20I series against New Zealand approaching, Babar Azam will look to silence critics with his performances and prove his worth once again.
