Mohammad Amir Reflects on Dismissing Babar Azam in PSL 10

Amir Gets the Better of Babar Again

LAHORE: Quetta Gladiators fast bowler Mohammad Amir spoke about dismissing Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam during the 17th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

Amir dismissed Babar Azam for the second time this season, getting him out for scores of 12 and 0 across their encounters.

Zalmi Collapse After Early Setbacks

Following Babar’s early departure, Peshawar Zalmi struggled to mount a serious challenge against Quetta Gladiators’ 179-run target.

The chase got off to a disastrous start, losing top-order batters Saim Ayub (5), Babar Azam (12), and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (5) inside the first five overs. Mohammad Haris tried to resist with a steady 16 off 17 balls, but once he fell, Zalmi’s innings crumbled rapidly.

They were bowled out for just 114 in 15.2 overs, suffering their fourth loss of the season.

Amir Speaks on Rivalry with Babar Azam

During the post-match press conference, Amir addressed the ongoing buzz around his on-field rivalry with Babar Azam.

He emphasized that such rivalries are a healthy and entertaining part of competitive cricket, especially in T20 leagues.

“Whether on the field or on social media, these rivalries entertain people, especially in T20s—that’s the main goal,” Amir said.

He added that while players must show aggression and competitiveness, it must remain within respectful boundaries.

“As a bowler, my role is to tease the batter and show aggression, while the batter’s role is to score runs. These things should happen, but within limits. It’s great for the tournament,” he added.

Strategy Behind Dismissing Babar

Amir also shared his tactical approach to bowling to Babar Azam, acknowledging the star batter’s class.

“Babar Azam is a big player, no doubt about that. My plan is always to use swing with the new ball, whether it’s against Saim or Babar,” he explained.

He further revealed his thought process during Babar’s dismissal.

“I assumed Babar would be ready for an outswinger, so I went for the ball that came back in,” Amir concluded.
