Babar Azam’s Captaincy Under Fire After Peshawar Zalmi's Poor PSL 10 Start

Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam is facing growing criticism after a disappointing start in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10. In the season opener against Quetta Gladiators, Babar was dismissed for a duck, setting a negative tone for his team.

Early Exit in Second Match

In Zalmi’s second outing against Islamabad United, Babar once again struggled. Chasing a massive 244-run target, he managed to score just one run before getting caught in the slips, leaving the team in early trouble.

Heavy Defeat Against Islamabad

The poor form continued as Peshawar Zalmi suffered a crushing 102-run defeat. The team was bowled out for 141 in just 18.2 overs, highlighting deeper issues within the squad’s strategy and leadership.

Basit Ali Slams Babar Azam’s Leadership

Former cricketer Basit Ali criticized Babar Azam during ARY News’ show Har Lamha Purjosh, expressing serious concerns over his captaincy and confidence.

“Getting caught in the slips during a T20 match shows how low his confidence is,” Basit stated.

Calls for a Change in Captaincy

Basit Ali went on to suggest that Babar should be removed from captaincy. He questioned Babar’s on-field decisions, especially his handling of bowlers.

“A bowler gives just nine runs and is removed, only to be brought back when others are being thrashed—this doesn’t make sense,” he added.

Batting Order Decisions Questioned

Although there was an attempt to reshuffle the batting order, Babar continued to open the innings, even when chasing large totals like 244.

“Your decisions are hurting the team,” Basit concluded.
