Peshawar Zalmi Awaits Clarity on Saim Ayub’s Fitness
Pakistan cricket has faced tough times in all three formats recently, with only a few players stepping up under pressure. One such emerging talent is Saim Ayub, who was set to represent Pakistan in the 2025 Champions Trophy before suffering an ankle injury in South Africa.
Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video of the young opener undergoing fitness drills, raising hopes for his return in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, according to a report from sports journalist Qadir Khawaja (Samaa TV), Saim has now completed his rehabilitation in the UK and has arrived in Lahore.
Fitness Test at NCA to Determine PSL Participation
As per the report, Saim Ayub will soon undergo a fitness assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), which will decide his availability for PSL 2025. He is a key member of Peshawar Zalmi, a team led by Babar Azam, and if declared fit, he is expected to open for them.
In case Saim Ayub is unable to recover in time, Mitchell Owen, recently signed by Peshawar Zalmi, is being considered as an alternative opening option.
Saim Ayub’s Importance to Peshawar Zalmi
Saim Ayub was one of the standout performers in the previous PSL season, scoring 345 runs at an average of 31.36 and a strike rate of 157+. His availability will be crucial for Zalmi as they aim for PSL glory.
The reports of his improving fitness are also a major boost for Pakistan’s national team, as he is expected to feature in all three formats after the PSL. Fans and selectors alike will be eagerly awaiting the final decision on his fitness before the tournament kicks off on April 11.
