Abdullah Shafique on Babar Azam’s Praise and His Goals for New Zealand Tour

Pakistan’s opening batter, Abdullah Shafique, has expressed his gratitude for Babar Azam’s encouraging words, calling them an honour. Speaking to the media, he shared his excitement about returning to the national squad and acknowledged the challenges of playing in New Zealand.

Abdullah emphasized that he aims to perform well on the tour, crediting domestic cricket for helping him refine his skills. He remains hopeful of meeting Babar Azam’s expectations and contributing positively to the team’s success.

Focused on Performance and Positivity

Shafique highlighted the strength of the New Zealand team, acknowledging that they are never an easy opponent. He is determined to put up a strong fight and deliver consistent performances.

Addressing criticism, the young batter stated that it is an inevitable part of cricket and should be taken constructively. He prefers to focus on his game rather than paying attention to unnecessary negative comments.

He also praised fellow cricketer Saim Ayub, calling him a valuable asset to Pakistan cricket and wishing him success.

On Adapting to All Formats

Abdullah Shafique reflected on his recent performances, admitting they haven’t been up to the mark but insisting that he has learned valuable lessons. He dismissed the notion of categorizing players as red-ball or white-ball specialists, asserting that a professional cricketer should be capable of excelling in all formats. Additionally, he emphasized the significance of strike rate in limited-overs cricket.

Babar Azam and Naseem Shah Return for Lahore Blues in National T20 Cup

Following their omission from Pakistan’s T20I squad for the New Zealand series, Babar Azam and Naseem Shah made their return to competitive cricket, representing Lahore Blues in the National T20 Cup 2025.

Earlier reports suggested that the duo had opted out of the tournament, but both players eventually took the field for Lahore Blues in their match against Karachi Whites.

Disappointing Outing for Lahore Blues

Lahore Blues suffered a 37-run defeat at the hands of defending champions Karachi Whites. The team struggled in both batting and bowling departments, with key players failing to make a significant impact.

Naseem Shah endured a tough game, going wicketless in his four-over spell while conceding 41 runs. His inconsistent line and length allowed Karachi Whites to capitalize at crucial moments.

Karachi Whites set a challenging 172-run target, which proved too difficult for Lahore Blues to chase.

Babar Azam’s Inning Falls Short

Opening for Lahore Blues, Babar Azam showed early promise, scoring 22 runs off 17 balls, including three boundaries. However, he failed to build on his start, leaving his team in a difficult position.

Interestingly, Babar was initially not part of the Lahore Blues squad, and his participation in the tournament remained uncertain until the last moment. Despite his presence, Lahore Blues couldn’t turn the game in their favor, highlighting the need for stronger performances in upcoming matches.
